It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. –C.S. Lewis
Now that we’ve just welcomed one more glorious spring in San Miguel de Allende, we can’t help but feel inspired to renew ourselves. While any time of year is appropriate to make any change or personal improvement – a new look, a new home, a new project, etc. -, spring just seems more appropriate. Maybe it’s the beauty that surrounds us, which is so inspiring: flowers in bloom; extremely blue skies; the strong, pristine sunlight…It’s like paradise!
With 2015 now well under way, it’s a great time to choose a new perspective in any aspect of your life where you feel you may need it. Sometimes we don’t even realize that we’ve become bored or jaded about some things until we give it some thought. It’s no coincidence that around this time of year many magazines and websites address the topics of ‘de-cluttering’ or ‘reinvention’. We tend to get used to things, and some of these things might actually be dead weight that’s slowing us down; or even negative influences (which can be internal or external) that are keeping us from seeing things as they truly are.
One of the things I’m going to do this weekend is treat myself to a cup of tea on one of the terraces at LifePath; while I write down some of the things on which I would like to re-focus. A slight – or big – change in our personal philosophy can do wonders, and it can drastically alter the way we live. There is no aspect that can be overlooked: we can choose and change the first words we’ll say each day and turn them into affirmations; or maybe it can be something as simple as how we react to abrupt weather changes. How about making a commitment with ourselves to eat better, or have more physical activity on a regular basis? As you can imagine, even our health can transform for the better when we re-tune our thoughts, readjust our attitude and redefine our priorities.
What will your new personal philosophy look like? I would feel honored to know. You can always reach me at docbeverly@aol.com.
