What I’ve Learned About Caregiving
I’ve learned so much about myself over the past couple of weeks as I’ve entered into the role of caregiver for my husband, Michael. He has been recovering from surgery and I’ve stepped up to the plate.

It’s been a time when I’ve been challenged to practice what I teach. For over 45 years, I’ve been in the field of alternative and complementary medicine and have always believed and experienced the importance of combining standard medical treatments with
Ayurveda (which stands for ‘life knowledge’ in Sanscrit) or Ayurvedic medicine is a system of traditional medicine & vedic system native to the Indian subcontinent and a form of alternative medicine. Well, I sent out the newsletter yesterday and totally forgot to add the new Introductory Enneagram Class offered at LifePath by Allen Zeesman. A big apology to Allen! This is very unlike a “1” personality on the Enneagram.
Have you noticed how many ads, tv shows, books, films, etc. address the topic of youth? It seems that as science has moved forward, accomplishing that would have been considered impossible a mere hundred years ago, it has embraced what is perhaps its most ‘popular’ goal: coming up with a ‘solution’ that allows us to be young forever.
What if someone told us that the way we think about stress actually has an impact on the way it affects our health? For me, this theory sounds completely plausible.
When we think about ‘taking care of ourselves’, most of us think about exercise, diets, and cosmetic procedures. Of course those things are important: we have to make sure our bodies stay in motion in order to prevent future issues; and we are all too familiar with the famous saying “you are what you eat”, because it’s so true.
Isn’t it odd that most of us think that giving ourselves some much deserved attention and pampering is a luxury, or an indulgence?
Imagine how good we would feel if we devoted an hour every day to making ourselves feel loved! It could take any form you want: either doing affirmations (here are some great ones); getting a massage, or a haircut; writing a list of the three best things we did each day and commending ourselves for those achievements.
