I want to talk with you about something very important to me. It’s why I have been writing these newsletters/blogs to you and why I have been creating online courses for the past couple of years. And, why, coming very soon, I’m going to share my latest creation just with you.
Most of you have heard of Dr. Wayne Dyer. He was a colleague of mine years ago in Dallas, Texas where I was practicing as a Psychologist. Dr. Dyer became known by the phrase, Don’t Die With Your Music Still In You (amongst many other things, of course), and that phrase has guided me for many years. He would stress that the phrase wasn’t about what you “do” with your life but “how” you lead your life. Of course, he believed and so do I; that we all have some music playing in our souls and we all have a heroic mission in life. In other words, we all show up here with a purpose or something that calls to us and excites our soul. But, it’s really more about, as Thoreau would say, “Let him step to the music which he hears….”
I feel strongly that too many people are too afraid to listen to their own music within and march to it. Maybe you have a book you want to write or a song you want to sing or a store you want to open or a university you want to attend or a relationship you want to pursue or something that makes your heart soar! And, you’re too afraid to pursue it. Or, maybe you want to travel and see the world or maybe you want to call someone and tell them you love them, or you want to walk the Camino in Spain or, or, or…. All of us feel something and it doesn’t have to be a grand purpose. It is just something you feel, and your heart knows it’s the right thing.
I’m happy to say I know what my music is. As I write this newsletter/blog and as I sit down and create my online courses and consult with my clients/students online and in person and tell them and the world what I know are my experiences and wisdom that I’ve learned from these experiences, I feel always, completely on purpose and fulfilled. And, I’m thrilled to share it with you.
As Dr. Wayne Dyer would say, “Whomever you are, whatever that music is… however distant it may sound….however strange, however weird others may interpret it to be, don’t get to the end of your life and know that you’re going to leave and not have it played yet. Don’t die with your music still in you.”

You have to believe in yourself
You have to believe in your ability
You are capable of anything
You can achieve any dream
Please don’t limit yourself
Don’t live your life limited
It’s not all sadness and misery
Life’s a challenge but you will succeed
Take control of how you feel
In every circumstance
Work on yourself daily
Your story is far from done
The best is yet to come!
To achieve you must believe
You can live out all your dreams
Persevere you’ll make it through
What you need is all in you
When you believe you will achieve
You can live out all your dreams
It’s about time you knew the truth
You’ve got the power all in YOU
You have to believe in yourself
You don’t have to hide anything
You can be your true self
You don’t need to follow society
Never forget that you’re blessed
Give thanks for everything
Even the hard times
Will turn out to be blessings
No matter how you feel
You can learn from your pain
It’s there to make you great
Your story’s far from done
The best is YET TO COME
To achieve you must believe
You can live out all your dreams
Persevere you’ll make it through
What you need is all in you.
When you believe you will achieve
You can live out all your dreams

To achieve you must believe
You can live out all your dreams

This is a Great Reminder Beverly!!! Thanks for reminding us to Believe!!!!
Thanks, Tuli! It truly is important to remember to keep on believing even when it looks like the world is out of control around us. I appreciate your comment very much! Beverly
I had a really interesting experience with Thoreau´s “different drummer” quote in New York in mid-1970s. I loved Thoreau´s quote and had a beautifully-caligraphed copy on my wall in my music studio where I taught conga drumming as a way of deepening your own personal rhythm.
The quote had meant a great deal to me for many years as a guide for my own personal journey. Well, one day I happened to be walking along Lexington Ave. on the Upper East Side (wealthiest neighborhood in NYC) and I passed a boutique called A Different Drummer. What did they have on offer– very expensive designer blue jeans!
A beautiful example of what Marcuse called “co-optation.” As he aptly said, “capitalism eats everything.”
Smile. And, perhaps the owner of that store was also walking to the beat of their own inner drummer? I hope you are still walking to your own inner beat and loving what you’re doing!!! You have a special gift to share with the world.
