“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” – Oscar Wilde
Tomorrow is Mother’s Day in the United States where it’s always the second Sunday in May. I tried to explain that to my Mexican neighbors and they couldn’t understand why Mother’s Day wasn’t always on the same day every year like it is in Mexico. That conversation made me think about special days – we have so many. There is Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Children’s Day, Christmas Day, Thanksgiving Day, Independence Day, Day of the Dead, Memorial Day, Easter Day, Birthday, etc. etc. As I thought about it, I became curious to know what today, May the 13th, is because it doesn’t seem particularly special. Or, is it?
Here’s what I found out about May 13th (to mention just a few…):
May 13 Birth Mother’s Day – Saturday before Mother’s Day
May 13 Blame Someone Else Day – first Friday the 13th of the year. (I laughed at this one)
May 13 Frog Jumping Day
May 13 International Migratory Bird Day the second Saturday in May
May 13 Leprechaun Day
May 13 National Train Day– Saturday closest to May 10th
May 13 National Windmill Day – the second Saturday in May
I’d love to hear from you at docbeverly@aol.com about your thoughts. I truly would.
