“Fear less, hope more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Hate less, love more; And, all good things are yours.” Swedish Proverb
Risk taking! There is a lot written about this subject and, yet, many still fear taking risks. It’s stepping out of our comfort zones, it’s accepting the unknown, it’s scary, and it’s exciting and creative at the same time. I guess that’s why it’s called “Risk Taking” and not called “Sure Thing Taking”!
So, I changed my hair color. I know it’s not a big risk but it is a risk, nevertheless. You have to step into the unknown and be willing to live with the consequences of that choice, right? It wasn’t really that big of a risk. I really didn’t change it that much but I did it. And, it’s a great example of how we face this possibility every day of our lives whether it’s small risks or big risks. Taking these risks often makes all the difference. So, why should we take risks?
1. It means taking action and moving forward. Only when we are willing to take action can we see results. Success comes from being active and proactive.
2. It builds self-confidence. If you never take risks, you’ll never know what you’re capable of.
3. It’s a way to co-create with the Universe. My experience has been that when you step into the unknown and take risks; the Universe has a way of responding with a big “Yes”! Even when that risk fails, I have come out wiser. And, I believe that creativity is the ability to take these risks.
4. It is how we can create our desired new reality. All we need to do is see it, believe it and act on it. I’ve attached a link to a 2015 Ted Talk by Patti Dobrowolski that addresses this. It’s really quite interesting. Hope you enjoy it and take her challenge.
What risk will you take today?
I’d love to hear from you at docbeverly@aol.com about your thoughts. I truly would.
