How did it get so late so soon?
It’s night before it’s afternoon.
December is here before it’s June.
My goodness, how the time has flewn!
How did it get so late so soon? – Dr. Seuss
Here we are: another year went by in the blink of an eye, and December is upon us once more!
At this point, it’s easy to go into panic mode over any project we might have fallen behind with. Tasks, goals, resolutions…sometimes they tend to pile up and haunt us even while we sleep! Let’s try to keep in mind that December should always be about reflecting on what we learned for the past 11 months; and appreciating the blessings in our lives.
There are also several pleasant events during the holiday season: reunions, lunches, the mexican ‘posadas’, and many others. May I suggest that instead of experiencing them as mere social occasions, you see them as opportunities to radiate love and generosity? Maybe there are relatives and acquaintances you only get to talk to once a year during one of these gatherings. Why not offer them a heartfelt smile and a warm, big hug? If there have been misunderstandings or any other kind of disagreement in the past, why not put it in the past and tie up loose ends?
Most importantly, December is an ideal time to reconnect with ourselves. Did we love us as much as we should have? Did we take good care of ourselves for the past eleven months? What about our thoughts – are they a source of joy; or a cause for grief and negativity? If something is not working, you can change it. If you need support in order to do it, there’s no better time to ask for the help of others than right now.
Do you have ‘unfinished business’ with yourself? Or, are all your ends tied up? I would love to hear from you at docbeverly@aol.com.
