A Note From Dr. Beverly Nelson, Director
Fall brings in the scent of the holidays, and the perfect time to clean our slates.
The time to reconnect with our families and friends approaches. It’s amazing how the atmosphere transforms so quickly: many stores are already displaying Christmas ornaments; people finalize their travel arrangements for Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year; and there is a sense of excitement and general celebration. Pumpkin spice latte, anyone?
It’s a great time to imitate what trees do at this time of year. Every Fall we see the trees change colors; their leaves begin to dry out and then fall, giving way to exquisite scenes of intense beauty that call for introspection. What are we ready to ‘shed’? Is it time to let go of past habits and bad memories that may be in the way, obstructing our path to happiness and peace? Consider shedding all that is old, everything that belongs to the past, so that you can reach the end of the year mentally bare; new and ready for what lies ahead.
The beauty of letting go is a joy to behold: just like the pavement covered with brown-yellow-red leaves; our souls shine through and let the rest of the world know that we are here, now, in this moment; and that we are ready for a peaceful closure of this year, and already looking forward to what the universe will give us next.
Are you ready to shed your leaves?
