People think dreams aren’t real just because they aren’t made of matter, of particles. Dreams are real. But they are made of viewpoints, of images, of memories and puns and lost hopes. – Neil Gaiman
When you start getting interested in Psychology and begin your path on what becomes a lifelong journey of learning – after many decades I still consider myself a student of Psychology – you learn about Jung, Freud, Lacan, etc. The topic of dreams has always fascinated mankind and, as a Psychology student or professional, you’re always bound to delve deeply into many teachings and interpretations. There is so much theory, even before the official beginnings of Psychology as a a discipline!
Our dreams are so loaded with messages. We never lose connection with that part of ourselves that is permanently in touch with the Universe. Deep down we always know ‘what’s up’.
We don’t just dream while we sleep: we also dream while fully awake. The combination of all these dreams, when we pay attention to all the elements and messages that are encapsulated in them, pretty much sums up who we are: what we want, what we need, our motivations, our worries, our areas of opportunity…It’s true that we cannot spend our whole lives dreaming instead of acting. The purpose of dreams is to lead us in our personal, true path. This is why I always recommend journaling (and dream journaling): we learn so much about who we are and who we want to become. It’s very insightful and it’s a practice you can keep during your whole life.
Our dreams are made of reality. I know it sounds counter-intuitive but hey – have you noticed many of the most crucial lessons in life sound like that?
Do you keep a dream journal, or a regular one? Do you find that it helps you make ‘more sense’ of your circumstances and place in the Universe? If not, why not start today? Always eager to read about your experiences at docbeverly@aol.com.
