A Note From Dr. Beverly Nelson, Director
Renovations at our new home started this week, and we couldn’t be more excited!
We truly appreciate the input and efforts of all those who have stepped in to help! I have always loved to witness the process of creation of something new, as well as the process of transforming a space, in order to fit it to new times.
A few weeks ago, a friend lent me a DVD of a film entitled “Life as a House”. Perhaps you have also seen it? If you haven’t I really recommend it. The narrative likens the process of renewal and acceptance of a person, to that of building a house, from the grounds up, in a place where the past had been far from pleasant. From something old and neglected, a new life, full of possibilities and love, is born.
Being immersed now in the process of remodeling our new location, I couldn’t help but make a connection between this film and what we are now going through. What a wonderful opportunity it is to be able to create something new out of something that already existed; how precious it is to have the chance to begin again, with the knowledge already acquired from the past, in combination with what we plan for the future!
Our lives are very much like a house: it is always good to check up on ourselves once in a while, to see if some parts need maintenance, or even a complete overhaul. The idea is daunting sometimes, but it can only lead to fantastic, positive breakthroughs – we are the sole architects in charge of this project, and we will be the ones to reap all the benefits.
What is the current state of your house? When was the last time you gave it proper maintenance? Reply to this e-mail and let me know – I would love to read about your insights!
