A Note From Dr. Beverly Nelson, Director
My favorite thing about the holidays is that joy floats in the air almost everywhere we go. People are more generous, more thoughtful and, well
– merrier!
I love how people get together in celebration and in gratitude. The sense of joy and appreciation seems to be a common trait shared by many religions during this time of year. As the year comes to an end, we all have the need to commemorate the most wonderful thing of all: that we are here, alive. The year behind us may have been difficult, yet it is a joy to still be here, making each moment count.
This is the time of year when many of us visit our families; for some people it can be challenging. For others, it is only a source of happiness and excitement. Whatever our circumstance may be, here is my suggestion: focus on the joy. The presents and the trivial conversations are never the most relevant thing about the holidays – what matters is the opportunity to be close to our loved ones: whether they’re our friends, our relatives or our co-workers; we carry so much of them with us! Every single person we meet is a teacher – what a joy it is to learn, to grow wiser, and to attain more peace of mind through life’s lessons!
There is always joy, even though sometimes it can be overshadowed by dark clouds. Focus on the light behind those clouds. Then you will realize joy is always there, within you. And once you find it – share it!
