A Wise Woman

A wise woman wishes to be no one’s enemy. A wise woman refuses to be anyone’s victim.  Maya Angelou

My 70th Birthday was Thursday, June 22! Even though it’s hard to believe that I’m actually 70, I feel honored and humbled that this milestone has been reached. In order to celebrate this incredible moment, I asked my friend and gifted healer, Eduardo Morales, to lead a small group of my friends and family in a ceremony. A wise woman ceremony. Each guest was asked to share a quote about a wise woman and put in a bowl to be shared with others. It was such an incredible experience to share these quotes with each other and to share the acknowledgement of having reached this stage of my life.
The quotes were so great, that I’d like to share them with you. Each one is a gem! One of my friends, Patrice Wynne, said that the quote, “Those who have walked thought the fire leave sparks of light everywhere they go” reminded her of me. Thanks, Patrice!
“A wise woman is like a teabag: You don’t know how strong she is until she gets into hot water.” Eleanor Roosevelt
“Nothing is worth more than laughter. It is a strength to abandon oneself to laughter and to be light.” Frida Kahlo:

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, we will have peace.” Jimi Hendrix
“At 70, you are just entering middle age. It used to be youth, middle age, old age. But that’s not accurate any more. In reality, one to twenty is just growing up and doesn’t count. Twenty to 50 is first stage adulthood, the learning phase of adulthood. 50 to 70 is second stage adulthood, the stage where you put all your wisdom to work. 70 is the beginning of middle age, where you enjoy the self you have built and support others in building theirs.” Gail Sheehy
“Youth is a gift of nature; middle age is a work of art.” Martha A. Adams
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou
“I’ve been absolutely terrified every minute of my life, and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.” Georgia O’Keefe
“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.” Oprah Winfrey
“I’ve always been attracted to women who are assertive and have confidence, qualities older women possess. They’ve been on the Earth a little longer. They are more seasoned. They Don’t play games. They know what they want and they are not afraid to tell you.” Taye Diggs
“A wise woman takes good care of herself, as well as taking good care of others. A wise woman is true to herself.” Anonymous
“Resilience.” Ivy DelPozzo
“Think good thoughts. Say nice things. Do good for others. Everything comes back to you.” Nicole Lamy
“A wise woman wishes to be no one’s enemy. A wise woman refuses to be anyone’s victim.” Maya Angelou
“A wise woman knows how to summon her courage and do what is right, rather than what is easy.” Suse Orman

I’d love to hear from you at docbeverly@aol.com about your own wise women quotes. I truly would.
